We each play different roles within our family depending on which family member we are interacting with. I am mother, daughter, cousin, ex-wife, lover, niece, granddaughter, and aunt. Each of these roles are what I see reflected to me when I look into the faces of my family. I learn about parts of myself depending on what attribute is put upon me. Our families are the first world we are born into, they shape us, help us grow, traumatize us, hold us back, teach us how to be and to not be, and ultimately become a microcosm to the larger world that we enter as adults.
